KOTA KINABALU (July 13): The 42nd Sabah Sepak Takraw Association (Astaka) President’s Cup will be held in Tawau from Sept 25 to 27.
The championship was among the key agenda items discussed during the Astaka Supreme Council meeting chaired by its president Datuk Roslie Ibrahim here on Saturday.
Astaka honorary secretary Suhaimi Abdullah in a statement on Sunday said the tournament is expected to bring together 242 athletes from 22 Astaka affiliated members, representing districts throughout Sabah. The four main categories to be contested are the Men’s and Women’s Regu and Quadrant competitions
Meanwhile, Roslie said that the President’s Cup is an important platform for discovering new talent from every corner of Sabah to strengthen the state future teams, while also fostering a strong sense of family and camaraderie among the sepaktakraw community.
At the same meeting, he also announced that the association had received approval for the construction of the Sabah Sepaktakraw Academy Hall, which will become a key asset in strengthening the state sepaktakraw development programmes.
The academy hall is expected to serve as a catalyst for producing more high-quality athletes, coaches, and technical officials, while ensuring Sabah continued its excellence as one of the country’s sepaktakraw powerhouses and a major gold medal contributor to the state contingent at the Malaysia Games (Sukma).
