SIBU (May 2): Sibu MP Oscar Ling has extended financial and welfare assistance to an underprivileged family whose infant is in urgent need of medical treatment in Peninsular Malaysia.
In a statement on Friday, Ling said his special assistant, Irene Wong, along with several trainees, visited the family on April 29 to better understand their situation and provide immediate support.
He revealed that the child’s grandfather had earlier sought assistance at his service centre.
The family’s one-year-and-four-month-old grandchild is suffering from a heart condition and requires urgent treatment outside Sarawak, placing significant financial strain on the household.
“I have provided RM3,000 in assistance to help ease their burden, particularly for daily expenses such as food, flight tickets and other necessities,” he said.
Ling added that during the visit, his team was informed that the family has also been struggling to secure sufficient daily food, prompting them to deliver food aid as part of the assistance.
He said he would continue to monitor the family’s application with the Social Welfare Department and work closely with the local community to ensure further support is channelled.
“It is hoped that the family will be able to face this difficult period with greater ease,” he added.
