Voon says said both sides, as part of the federal government, should file a motion in parliament to repeal not just the PDA, but also other Acts detrimental to Sarawak such as the Territorial Sea Act 2012.
KUCHING (Feb 19): Lawmakers from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) should come together in efforts to repeal the Petroleum Development Act (PDA) 1974, said Voon Lee Shan.
The Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president said both sides, as part of the federal government, should file a motion in parliament to repeal not just the PDA, but also other Acts detrimental to Sarawak such as the Territorial Sea Act 2012.
“Unless repealed, talking in public cannot solve the problems and merely serves as political rhetoric,” he said in a statement today.
Voon said it was pointless for certain leaders in DAP and GPS — particularly SUPP — to blame each other over the matter as both are on the same side at the federal level.
“Have any GPS or SUPP MPs filed any motion in parliament to repeal PDA 74? As for DAP and PH, it has been years since they promised 20 per cent oil and gas royalties and 50 per cent tax revenue for Sarawak during the 14th general election.”
He claimed that since the PDA was passed, Sarawak had been deprived of yearly oil and gas revenues amounting to “over a hundred billion ringgit”.
Voon, a former Batu Lintang assemblyman and a lawyer, said PBK only wants what all Sarawakians want, namely the return of rights to all marine wealth, sea territories, and oil and gas resources.
