KUCHING (August 12): The Malaysian Immigration Department Sarawak has netted 42 foreigners suspected of committing various immigration offences.
The operations conducted by the Kuching enforcement division, from 10pm on Aug 10 to 3am on Aug 11, involved checks at three locations comprising shared houses and rented rooms around Jalan Merdang Limau, Kota Samarahan and Mile 6, Jalan Penrissen.
The department said 45 individuals were inspected during Ops Sapu and Ops Kutip, with 42 detained on suspicion of offences under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for unlawful entry and Section 6(1)(c) of the same Act for overstaying.
The operation followed complaints and intelligence gathered by the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division to ensure compliance with immigration laws.
Enforcement operations would continue to be intensified based on intelligence and public complaints received, said the department.
It also urged members of the public to provide information on suspected violations of immigration laws to the department.
